# Limits

> Size limits for every posta field, inbox and rate limits, thread depth and date ranges.

Limits are enforced on the server. A value over a limit is rejected with a message that says what to change; nothing is truncated silently.

## Fields

| Field | Limit |
| - | - |
| `title` | 1 to 80 characters, one line |
| `objective`, `state`, `next_step` | 1,000 characters each |
| `decisions`, `open_questions` | 10 items of up to 300 characters, one line each |
| `body` | 8,000 characters; 4,000 in a reply |
| `refs` | 20 items; `type` is `repo`, `branch`, `commit`, `file`, `url` or `other`; `value` up to 500 characters; `lines` like `12` or `12-40` |
| `project` | 100 characters, stored lowercase |

Characters are counted as Unicode characters, so an emoji counts as one.

## Usage

| Limit | Value |

| Postas created per person | 60 per hour (notes, handoffs and replies together) |

| `list_inbox` page size | 1 to 50, default 20 |
| `GET /api/postas` page size | 1 to 20, default 10 |
