# send_handoff

> Hand off work to another person in the user's LePosta group, with objective, state, next step, decisions and open questions. Requires the user's explicit confirmation.

> Hand off work to another person in the user's LePosta group, identified by GitHub username. The posta must stand on its own: objective, current state, next step, decisions already made and open questions. Write it in the user's language. Before calling this tool, show the user the recipient and the full content and get explicit confirmation. Never include secrets or customer data.

**Annotations:** `readOnlyHint: false`, `destructiveHint: false`, `openWorldHint: true`.

## Input

**to** `string` *required*

GitHub username of the recipient, with or without `@`, case-insensitive. Must be in your group and must have signed in to LePosta once. Use [`whoami`](/mcp/tools/whoami) to check.

**title** `string` *required*

1 to 80 characters.

**objective** `string` *required*

What the work is meant to achieve. Up to 1,000 characters.

**state** `string` *required*

Where things stand right now. Up to 1,000 characters.

**next\_step** `string` *required*

The first action the recipient should take. Up to 1,000 characters.

**decisions** `string[]`

Decisions already made: up to 10 one-line items of 300 characters.

**open\_questions** `string[]`

Questions still open: up to 10 one-line items of 300 characters.

**body** `string`

Any other detail. Up to 8,000 characters.

**refs** `object[]`

Up to 20 references, same shape as in [`create_note`](/mcp/tools/create-note).

**project** `string`

Project name, up to 100 characters.

## Result

The handoff starts a new thread and lands in the recipient's inbox as `open`.

## Errors

| Message | Cause |
| - | - |
| `You can't send a handoff to yourself: use create_note for notes to yourself.` | `to` is you |
| `@x is not in your LePosta group. Use whoami to see who you can send handoffs to.` | Not on the allowlist |
| `@x has not signed in to LePosta yet; ask them to connect once.` | Invited but never signed in |
| `@x's inbox is full (100 pending postas). Ask them to clear some first.` | Recipient's inbox full |
